The legend of King Arthur
John Randolph, an American historian and journalist have done a lot of research to find as many old English legends as possible. Не has visited a large number of libraries and bookshops and he has got quite a big collection of early stories of Britain. His favourite stories are about King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. Many people are completely fascinated with these legends, the hero, and unique atmosphere. There are many different versions of these legends, but all of them talk about Camelot, King Arthur’s brave heart and his magical sword Excalibur. And also his friends, the Knights of the Round Table: Sir Gawain and Sir Percival. Next comes Sir Lancelot, the Knight who fell in love with Arthur’s wife, and his son, Sir Galahad, who was the best knight. And maybe one more, Sir Mordred – he turned to be Arthur’s dishonest son. All their adventures contain surprising events and the power of magic which is connected with Arthur’s advisor, Merlin. If we try to find out the truth about Arthur we’ll not be able to decide whether he was a real person or a legendary king. The historians don’t know if he really existed at all, who he was or what exactly did. The most popular theory, however, is that he was simply a military commander, and not a king at all. In the sixth century, he fought against the Anglo-Saxon invaders in Britain.
